Visual Krafts

The project Jack and the Purpose began way back in 2011 when Akasdeep Bhadra started out with the concept of showing the mindset of a boy going through a stage of identity crisis. Once the script was matured and the team was ready, we started shooting for the film in December 2011, with no crew members. Most of the time extra actors used to help in the shoot, and at times I shot the film with only the director and the actor. After two weeks of hard work, we were finally able to make a copy for sending to the film competition at ISI, Kolkata where it came among the top five films.

Work on the music was still left and continued till the end of January 2012. By February 2012 we were able to release our first short film in Youtube for our viewers.

The film received good reviews…

The Sound Check Project: Season 2

Episode 15 of the Sound Check Project featuring the track “Someone” by T.L. Mazumdar (feat. Jivraj Singh & Julia Ohrmann).

”Dedicated to Gyan Singh (1951-2012)”
T.L. Mazumdar (Germany-based Singer-Songwriter/Multi-instrumentalist ) has been called ”a major talent” by Jack Douglas (Producer: Miles Davis/John Lennon/Aerosmith etc.) and
”among a handful of Indian musicians who are trying to break the Western stereotype that they have to play sitars or tablas, or sing Bollywood and bhangra numbers” by Time Out magazine.

He has been nominated for the Bremer Jazzpreis 2012, a National Award for German artists for outstanding contribution to German jazz with ethnic influences
Brought up in North Africa, UK, India and Germany, T.L. believes music is beyond social conditioning, beyond nationality and beyond other forms of tagging life with labels. His music is about bringing worlds together. The dreamer and the nerd. The cerebral and intuitive. The skeptic and the believer. The lost and found.
This song is from his upcoming album titled ‘BUeC’ (short for Bideshi Uebersetzungs Collective).

The Sound Check Project S01 E12: Amyt Datta & Jivraj Singh – “Corridors”

The Sound Check Project: Season 1

Episode 12 and the final episode of Season 1 of the Sound Check Project featuring the track “Corridors” by Amyt Datta and Jivraj Singh.

Amyt Datta / Guitar, Synth / is India’s pre-eminent guitar explorer. Rolling Stone Magazine calls him the country’s “true live guitar god”.

The road was Amyt’s teacher. In the 1980’s, he cut his teeth touring with famed rock & roll band Shiva. They went hard, like no Indian band since. Next, he and Monojit Datta formed D for brother. The short lived, but prolific, duo played intricately designed culture blend music long before it became the hip thing to do. With Indian indie pioneers Skinny Alley, he co-wrote, produced and played on the first English language album by an Indian band to get a major label release.

In recent years, Amyt has moved away from a purely guitaristic focus and is journeying down a dangerous path of dissonant poetry. The reward: un-imagined beauty.

Listen to Amyt’s solo album – ‘Ambiance de Danse’

“Ambiance de Danse” is the debut studio album from Indian experimental/world duo Amyt Datta (guitar, synth, composition) and Jivraj Singh (drums, electronics, design).

Poster for 24 hr film project – Void

“Void” is a story of a girl, who comes to college on a fine day to find that the college is empty. Her search for her friends in college who had persuaded her to come, ends in a very unexpected way.

Back in February, we organized a small workshop called Film Making for Dummies. In the workshop we set out to make an indie short film with a small story, shot in one location, and one which can be wrapped up easily in a day’s shooting. After a lot of discussion about the script, we zeroed in with this script named “Void”. Right from writing the script to story boarding to shooting and making the final edited product was done with all the participants in the workshop. After the workshop, we made some fine tuning before uploading to YouTube.

The film has been funded by The Students’ Council of Heritage Institute of Technology and was made possible by the active participation of members from Pravasana, the film and photography club of the college.
